October 2009

The month starts in the same vein as the previous two - with rehearsals not being as regular as we would like.
Still, there may not be a rehearsal, but there's a gig on the first Saturday. Off Hush go back to The Anchor in Warminster.
Thankfully, the band area had been moved since we were last there, so this time Clive didn't have to climb over
my amp(!) to get to his kit!
The evening started off worryingly quiet on the audience front, but it did build up nicely by the time we started playing.

The set was similar to the Reckless but as we have a good number to choose from there were some changes
to keep the band from getting bored. Sunrise raised its head again and was well received, along with the rest of the first set.

Yet again we started the second set with Pink Floyds Shine On You Crazy Diamond. This is a song I really despise
and can't listen to (like almost all of Pink Floyds back catalogue) but playing it with the band with just feels so right.
It must work well because it went down very well again. Highway Star brought things back up to speed nicely and
got the second half really going.
White Room had another airing, which went well and the night was finished off with what has become a bit of a Hush
tradition; Smoke On The Water and Freebird.

To top off a great evening we had a rather good write up in the Warminister Journal, so thanks for popping along to
see us and enjoying the evening.

A couple more rehearsals have happened since then, and some new songs are being worked on, so expect
them in November.

That's all for now,

Chris.

And so we have another gig - the first Friday gig in over a year. And each time we realise why we don't do them; it's just not
rock n' roll to have to a day of honest work before playing an evening of music!
Still, we got ourselves in the mood for the evening by not having to squeeze ourselves into a corner, which makes a nice
change. What also made a change was that we were on a a stage. A hollow raised stage, which always plays havoc with
on-stage acoustics, even if it all sounds fine out front. Booming bass resonances from Jon and myself battling it out, no
high end from stage left - so much so that I could only really hear Rich when the rest of us were not playing. The sound
where it mattered was fine we were assured.

Due to only a few rehearsals recently the set was comprised of trusted songs - all of which got good reactions from the
assembled audience. The first half ran its course fairly smoothly with the exception of the odd stray note, beat and word, as
well as Rich trying to destroy his mic and stand at one point fairly early on into the proceedings (which he failed, thankfully!).

The interval - with no ice cream - was well received by the band before commencing the second part of the evenings proceedings.
This took on a slightly different turn to usual with Animal and Poison coming in second and third respectively, which I thought
worked rather well, before launching into the group of songs which have become a bit of a main stay around the middle of
the second set. I'll have to see about changing them around for a bit more of variety, if for no other reason except that we have
another sixteen or seventeen songs we know, and they don't fit in to the couple of hours we have for a gig.

Wishing Well and House Of The Rising Sun followed, with Rebel Yell running after them. Even though Rebel Yell has only been
in the set since July it has become one of my favourite points of the evening, despite the pain it can put me under (if I'm in the
wrong frame of mind) with all those eighth notes at that speed and only about six bars rest throughout the song. Radar Love is
also a big hit with me, which might have something to do with the fantastic riff which I am forced to play....

Due to some indecision with the set list planning this time round we stuck one more than normal into the second set and so
planned on finishing with You Really Got Me. However more was wanted so Hush and Freebird ended the evening.

Despite the fact it was a Friday, and it was raining it all went pretty well. Thanks to everyone who didn't stay in the comfort
of their own homes and came out to see us carry on regardless of the weather. We'll be back in Swindon (well, Wroughton to
be more accurate) for what is currently scheduled to be the last gig of the year in December, after a jaunt to the sea side next
month at Scallys in Weston.
